Get to know us
Hello we are the founders of Everwell Somatics- Mikaela Brown and Mackenzie Valley. The two of us have been moving together for close to two decades. We have danced our way through companies, traveling the globe and creating our own choreographic work. Throughout our years as professional dancers and choreographers, we intuitively knew the healing power of movement and practiced this principle to the best of our abilities. A combination of physical pain/injury, demands of motherhood, the pandemic, and mental stress, caused a deeper search into our own personal healing journeys - specifically how movement and connecting to the body can liberate from pain, trauma and into wholeness. Thus we took different paths to arrive at a similar destination- that a somatic approach to healing is life-changing. It is now our passion to help others discovery the beauty of movement and somatic work.
Mikaela Brown
Hanna Somatic Educator and Pilates Instructor (PMA certified)
Mikaela danced and created dance professionally for 15 years, both in Cleveland and abroad. While she was exploring dance creatively, she began to also explore how to utilize movement to get out of pain. Her own journey of physical pain led her first to Pilates, then to Hanna Somatics. She now works with her knowledge of both, combined with functional movement, to guide people into better bodily organization and a life of moving with less pain.
As we age or get injured, our bodies compensate with disorganized movement patterns. This disorganization leads to muscle overuse and underuse and, eventually, to pain. But we have the power to change our movement patterns! Balance the body, and turn angry muscles into happy ones!
Mackenzie Valley
Integrated Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate
Mackenzie has her B.A. in Performing Arts from Lees McRae College (2007) and has performed, taught and choreographed in the professional dance scene since. She began exploring concepts of movement as healing and worked closely with clinical trauma therapists, developing ideas and strategies before completing the Integrated Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate from The Embody Lab in 2023.
I love how somatic movement experiences can lead to deeper self compassion and greater authenticity. Our inner healing journeys don't have to be so scary or serious- they can be filled with joy and laughter!
